Post 7 - Genre

Researching into short films.

This is a short film called Rest, it is of a similar genre to that of my film which is a zombie film although it does not have the comedy element that I hope to include within my film. This film is about a man who was killed in battle and comes back as a zombie in order to return home and see his wife one last time he travels across the modern world in order to find her. When he finally finds her resting place he lays down next to her so they can rest in peace together.
The Beats Of Rest.
Beat 1...Climbs out of grave.
Beat 2...Comes to realise where he is and begins to find his way home.
Beat 3...Walks to the seaside and can not get across.
Beat 5...Hitches a ride to New York.
Beat 6...Walks through America to his home town.
Beat 7...Finds his wife's grave.
Beat 8...Digs his wife up in order to lay next to her.

Dark Times

This is a film about a zombie outbreak that is caused by an explosion within a nuclear plant on, or around Christmas day, I like how this film has been made because it is shot in the first person and it is something that I have not seen before.
The Beats Of Dark Times Are:
Beat 1...Running in the woods
Beat 2...A fire caused by the nuclear plant exploding
Beat 3...Zombie attack
Beat 4...When attempting to run away the path is blocked by a contaminated river
Beat 5...The companion you are running with is badly injured
Beat 6...A zombie attacks you and begins to eat you
Beat 7...You Become a zombie
Beat 8...You hunt down and kill your companion
Beat 9...You are attacked by a group of humans and then a mutated zombie

Post 7a More Stuff About Genre

Genre function according to a set of rules and conventions, which can govern their capacity and range. These conventions allow the audience to figure out what genre the film is and what they expect to see within the film. Over time the conventions within each genre have been added too and developed.
The Definition of Genre is: A category of artistic composition, as in music or literature, characterized by similarities in form, style, or subject matter.

Conventions and Paradigms.
The Definition of a Paradigms are: A typical example or pattern of something; a model, Or a worldview underlying the theories and methodology of a particular scientific subject.
How are they grouped.
When talking about paradigms they can be grouped into those relating to: Iconography, which is signs and symbols
Structure, the way the film is put together
Theme, issues and ideals that the film deals with

Why do we categorise films.
We categorise films into genre and certificate, to make it easier for the public to view what they liked. It also allows Hollywood to see what type and genre of film does better and gets more money in order to make more money. A negative of having genre specifications is that having one set of rigorous rules that classify what genre films fall into makes or can make the audience think that all those types of films are the same and there for not interesting.
